This last season of the Oprah Show is heavy on reunions and reconciliations. In a two-part show, former Oprah relationship expert Iyanla Vanzant, sat down with Oprah to talk about what lead to their split eleven years ago (click here for a video excerpt).
Her most recent book, Peace from Broken Pieces, is published by Smiley Books, founded by PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley. It is an imprint of Hay House.
The book is now #1 on Amazon’s sales rankings.

On Thursday, Stephen Colbert grilled historian Eric Foner on the real causes of the Civil War. Foner’s book, The Fiery Trial, was also featured on NPR’s Fresh Air yesterday and is currently at #166 on Amazon sales rankings.
Edward Glaeser appeared on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart to discuss his book about the importance of cities. Stewart called it a “tremendous book.” As a result, it rose to #88 on Amazon sales rankings.

Motivational speaker and business coach Dani Johnson will be on Oprah on Thursday to promote the premiere of ABC’s Secret Millionaire on March 6. Johnson is one of the show’s millionaires who give up their luxury lives to spend a week living in poverty.

Johnson has published two books with Christian publisher Desitny Image. It is not clear if they will be featured on Oprah.

The Vampire Diaries, now in its 2nd season, and based on the books by L.J. Smith is the CW Network’s biggest hit. Unsurprisingly, then, they have just given the greenlight to a pilot based on another series by Smith, The Secret Circle (departing from vampires, this one is about witches).

It seems Smith will no longer write The Vampire Diaries books (which are produced by Alloy Entertainment). According to the author’s blog, the next title, Midnight, coming in March, is by her but the following one, Phantom will involve a ghostwriter.

Debuting this Sunday on PBS Masterpiece is a four-part big-budget adaptation of Any Human Heart, by William Boyd.
In the UK, where it played in November, reviewers (The Telegraph and The Guardian) preferred the book to the series, despite a strong cast.

It’s become a tradition. The Tuesday after the Newbery/Caldecott Awards are announced, the winners, along with the YALSA or ALA president, are guests on the Today Show.
But the only author on the show this Tuesday was MTV Jersey Shore star Snooki, for her debut novel, A Shore Thing.
Publishers Weekly reports that, in response to inquiries, the Today show said they turned down the segment this year because of a a “lack of interest and scheduling problems,” but asserted that the show “does more book segments in a given year than any other television show,” and “supports the publishing industry with initiatives like Al’s Book Club for Kids and Read for the Record.”

The Today Show missed an opportinity; in libraries that own copies of A Shore Thing, holds are much lower than for Moon Over Manifest or for A Sick Day for Amos McGee.
After a long wait, HBO has finally announced that the ten-part series based on George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones will begin on April 17.

In a profile, Matt Damon, who stars in the Coen brothers movie of True Grit (opening on Wednesday), says he may be “only person in America who hasn’t seen the [1968 John Wayne] movie.” When Damon asked the Coen brothers if he should see it, they said, “Actually, the book is where you should go, because we’re not looking at it as a remake of that film as much as a strict adaptation of this great book.” Portis is also profiled today in the NYT.
A story about book covers is not very insightful, although it’s fun to see some of the people behind several books.
One of the covers discussed is for the forthcoming The Story of a Beautiful Girl, by Rachel Simon, featured recently in LJ‘s “PrePub Alert.”
