What Does GCB Stand For?
If you haven’t already, you will soon begin seeing the ad on the left in magazines and on billboards.
What does GCB stand for? Originally, it was Good Christian Bitches, from the book this new tv series is based on. ABC got cold feet, however, and changed it to Good Christian Belles and, then, in a burst of creativity, reduced it to textese.
The network says the plot “Centers on Amanda Vaughn, a recently divorced mother of two who, to get a fresh start, moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew to find herself in the whirling midst of salacious gossip, Botox, and fraud.”
Starring Kristin Chenoweth and Annie Potts, it premieres Sun., March 4, 10 p.m. EST on ABC. It is the network’s attempt to replace the lucrative Desperate Housewives, which ends in May.
The book, originally published by Brown Books in Dallas, was reissued last month by Hyperion. Booklist, reviewed it, saying, “Chick lit tackles the Christian Right, with amusingly predictable results in Gatlin’s solid freshman effort,” but LJ Express said, “The characters are obsessed with labels and bank balances, and the book is a tiresome exercise in unfettered consumption. Of possible interest to Texans who may enjoy identifying the thinly veiled Dallas environs. Other than that, there’s nothing to like here.”
Some libraries are showing holds on light ordering.

Love that the show reveals the true hypocrisy in some of these holier than thou Christians. Not to say that they’re all like that, but there are many that go to church on Sunday and are breaking most of the commandments the rest of the week.

I just wanted to point out a mistake in the plot description,
“plot “Centers on Amanda Vaughn, a recently divorced mother of two who, to get a fresh start”
She Isn’t Divorced she is Widowed. Her late husband and his mistress were getting ready to skip to mexico with the Feds soon on his tail and all the money he cheated everyone out of with a ponzi scheme. on the way out of town he drove off a cliff on the P.C.H. due to the distraction from her giving him a Blow Job.

I love GCB! I don’t commit easily to new shows but I cannot resist this one! I hope ABC doesn’t do what it usually does with great shows and cancel it.

I hope they have Good Muslim Bitches and Good Jew Bitches and Good Hindi Bitches et al.
@Jenny, just as long as you have the same hatred towards the hypocrisy of all the groups’ bitches mentioned above.

I like this show as well, I believe because of our flesh, temptation and this fallen world, no matter what religion we proclaim there will be hypocrisy. As a Christian woman I must say it’s not on purpose. I think this show will help us to see ourselves and ask for the grace of God to do better. I also think it’s funny and will help some of us stuck ups to get a sense of humor, not take ourselves so serious. God bless, and don’t mess with Texas RollTide!

Love this show! It is hillarious & those griping about it need to see it for what it is . . . A funny break from being too serious 24/7. If you enjoyed Steel Magnolias, just watch two episodes & you’ll start be hooked & laughing all through the show. I had no interest per the commercials, but watched on On Demand because nothing is ever on tv worth watching & gave it a try. SO glad I did. Hope it isn’t cancelled. Too many good ones get cancelled because they don’t give enough time to build an audience unless it is a reality show. This is worth the watch & a great laugh.

I, too, expected to not like this show, and caught it by accident. I think it is a total hoot! Each of the characters are drawn well, with flaws and imperfections, and I find myself liking and empathizing with them, in spite of some of the outrageous things that occur. And some very compassionate themes, such as Cricket’s best friend/love relationship with her gay husband.
I hope it doesn’t get cancelled!

OMG, I knew nothing of the book, nor did I have a heads up from anyone…saw the promo trailer a couple of times, and the big fat diamond-studded GCB: It wasa freaking No-Brainer.
Was there any doubt in anyone’s mind what that acronym stood for?….um if yes, ya’ll don’t live in the south!! HA! Where Good (Southern) Christian Btiches reside in large numbers. And oh yes everyone does love everybody, until they hate ’em, then they love ’em, then hate ’em, then love ’em. Why do you think em’all need to be saved on a regular basis (from themselves) by Jesus of course! Love ya’ll. ♥♥♥♥♥♥
