The Booker vs. the National Book Award
The winner of the Booker Prize, Howard Jacobson, got more attention from NPR on last night’s All Things Considered. This is the second time he’s been featured on the show.

The winner of the National Book Award, Jaimy Gordon hasn’t received much attention from NPR so far. However, her book, Lord of Misrule, is beginning to catch up in reviews; it was reviewed admiringly by the Susan Salter Reynolds in the L.A. Times.

I have just finished reading Jaimy Gordon’s, Lord of Misrule, the 2010 National Book Award winner for fiction.
The backstretch of any thoroughbred racetrack is a circus; a concentration of wonderful mad mad human souls and noble athletes. Jaimy Gordon knows them, loves them, and uses them to created a work of art.
Her characters jig, polka and break-dance on the edge of razor blades to her tough, moving, maddening, musical prose.
The broken down racehorses in her novel, one sore step away from the man dressed in black, have poetry written in their eyes, and on their saddle cloths. Her prose moves us to become a more sentient reader. There is a literary genius at work here. James Aitchison
