Cleopatra for the 21st Century
The bio of Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff coming in November caught the attention of several librarians at BEA’s Shout & Share program. It’s also caught the attention of film producer Scott Rudin, who has bought the rights to the book, reports USA Today‘s Book Buzz column.
Who will play the lead?
Rudin says he is developing it “for and with” Angelina Jolie.

Maybe in some place and time we’ll get a Cleopatra movie that is just a little bit historically accurate in that she won’t be played by a white woman with light eyes?

First we had Elizabeth Taylor (1963), now 47 years later, Hollywood, seemingly still cannot wrap its head around the historical truth of the Black feminine ideal. Rather, it persists in churning out pathetic, revisionist contrivances where white women are central instead of African women. Makes you wonder.
