What Tops Getting A Time Mag. Cover?
As everyone knows by now, Jonathan Franzen is the first living writer in ten years to receive the Time magazine cover treatment.
Also, Scott Rudin just closed a deal for movie rights to Franzen’s new book, Freedom (Deadline, 8/13/10). Don’t get too excited, however; Rudin also bought the rights to Franzen’s previous book, The Corrections, in 2001 and it is still “in development.”
Today, the NYT‘s formidable Michiko Kakutani gives the book a rave, calling it “galvanic,” and “Updikean,” with “prose that is at once visceral and lipidary,” (is that even possible?), “a novel that turns out to be both a compelling biography of a dysfunctional family and an indelible portrait of our times.”
Library holds are growing.
